I can’t believe this is the last week of the year! Well, I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a best of 2011 list (each year I question whether I should put one together or not, and each year I inevitably put one together.)
Anyway, here’s my list for this week, which, I must say, has been mostly a week of oldies.
Elder – Dead Roots Stirring
Here’s some amazing heavy, doomy, rifftastic music. I’m not sure that I have a favorite doom metal album for this year, but I’m leaning towards this one.
Graveyard – Hisingen Blues
I think the title is supposed to sound like “high singin’ blues,” but who am I to say. It sound a lot like Radio Moscow or a more southern bluesy version of the Black Keys. It’s good.
Free – Fire and Water
What is there to say about such an awesome band?
Bill Evans – Sunday at the Village Vanguard
And again, what can I say about such a legendary musician.
Jimmy Reed – Live at Carnegie Hall
For me, Jimmy Reed has been an underrated blues musician. One must listen to him with an intent ear because his high points are subtle. Here’s a good one.
